The actress took the stand during the highly-publicized defamation trial between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp. She alleged that her then-husband stood her up on the red carpet at the 2016 Met Gala.
The ex-couple tied the knot back in 2015 in a private ceremony in their LA home, but it was rather a short-lived marriage of 15 months. On May 23, 2016, Heard filed for divorce and also obtained a temporary restraining order. Depp denied the abuse.

Millions of dollars in divorce settlement later, the two made their joint statement about their separation. It sounded like they parted on good terms despite all that had transpired between them. However, as we all know by now, that wasn’t the case.
In December 2018, Heard wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post, detailing her abuse and the treatment women like her receive in this case. While she didn’t drop any names, everyone knew who she was talking about. Then came their back-and-forth controversial court battles, including Depp’s $100 million libel suit that headlined every news outlet for months.
In one part of the trial, Heard talked about how she met Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, with whom she had a relationship after Depp.

According to the former “Aquaman” actress, she and Depp were supposed to attend the 2016 Met Gala together as guests of the luxury brand Ralph Lauren. He missed a fitting as it happened around her 30th birthday party in LA (and they had been fighting then).
Even though he couldn’t attend the fitting, she assumed he was still going. Additionally, Heard said that his team wouldn’t communicate with her then. She didn’t know he would show up until he didn’t.
So, she ended up going by herself and sat next to an empty seat reserved for Depp. The seat was then removed after Depp’s absence was confirmed.
During the event, she got reacquainted with Musk, who attended with his mother, Maye Musk. They saw each other on the red carpet and talked afterward because he sat at a nearby table.
Heard didn’t recognize him until he reminded her they had met once before. They had some great conversations that night and eventually became friends.
The two struck up a romance shortly after that (and around the same time that the actress officially filed for divorce). Musk’s representative clarified that Musk and Heard’s relationship didn’t overlap with the actress’ marriage with Depp.
It came after the actor accused Heard of having an extra-marital affair with Musk. The rep also added that the two didn’t see much of each other even when they started dating, and it didn’t get romantic until later.
Then, by August 2017, Heard and Musk had already broken up. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter a year after their breakup, Heard shared that they had a beautiful relationship, which grew into a beautiful friendship founded on their core values.
She also said they really bonded over many things – “intellectual curiosity, ideas and conversation, and a shared love for science” – and she had so much respect for him.
After six weeks of trial testimonies and three days of jury deliberation, Depp was awarded $15 million in damages and ultimately “won” the case.
