At 10:26 a.m., July 25, 2017, The Vampire Diaries alum Ian Somerhalder and Twilight’s Nikki Reed welcomed their first child and baby girl Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder. The actors announced her arrival in May with matching Instagram posts featuring Reed’s growing belly sweetly kissed by her husband.
In her caption, the Twilight star said, “Hi Little One. I know you, but only because I feel you. How is it possible to love someone so much already?”

Now Bodhi Somerhalder Reed is due to be a big sister! Nikki and Ian announced in January 2023 that another little one – a young boy – would be joining their family.
However, before we meet the new member of the Reed-Somerhalder household, let’s first get to know the couple’s firstborn.
Bodhi Soleil
Before Bodhi Soleil was born, her parents didn’t know if she would be a boy or a girl. According to her parents, the decision behind avoiding the usual gender reveal was that they’d both be excited either way. After all, they wouldn’t lose no matter what gender their child has.
Aside from keeping the sex a surprise, they also decided to spend the first month alone with their baby. In an interview with Fit Pregnancy and Baby, Nikki Reed shared that they wouldn’t have any visitors and were turning their phones off too.
They wanted to be fully present with their baby. “You don’t get those first 30 days back,” she said.
After Nikki Reed’s daughter Bodhi came along in 2017, she and her husband Ian made a conscious adjustment in their lifestyle. They stopped being nomads jumping from one state or country to another.
They left Los Angeles and settled down on a farm “very far outside of the city” where they could give Bodhi a normal childhood away from the limelight and be there to witness her every milestone.

As a baby transitioning into solid foods, Bodhi had a discerning palate. Talking to PEOPLE, Reed confessed that she used to have a vision of cooking every meal for her daughter with plenty of greens.
However, she quickly realized that the best she could do for her child as a mom was to help her navigate life. Of course, that would include what food she wanted to eat.
Two-year-old Bodhi’s feelings about her food always changed, but she quickly embraced a plant-based and zero-waste lifestyle. Reed said her daughter would ‘pick a tomato over a piece of cake any day.’
Now, the five-year-old also enjoys planting and harvesting her own food on the farm. In a photo Reed uploaded on her Instagram, she dubbed Bodhi her ‘tiny professional lemon farmer‘ as she reached into her pocket full of lemons.
Aside from a healthy relationship with food and plants, Bodhi has also formed a healthy relationship with animals. After all, when Reed was still pregnant with Bodhi, she had a foster litter of pugs. After Bodhi’s arrival, she had a foster terrier.
It’s safe to say there was so much puppy love going around for her. Additionally, being surrounded by goats, cows, horses, and especially the chickens, who have become her best friends, also helped strengthen the child’s bond with animals.
Experiencing Nature
Spending time in nature despite busy work schedules is very important to both Reed and Somerhalder. That’s why they always make time to go on camping trips with their daughter Bodhi.
The couple even has a 1989 Vanagon and an Airstream, and they would often enjoy a hundred days – a third of a year – in nature. Bodhi, who loves to get her hands dirty in soil and run through the dirt barefoot, also enjoys these camping trips.
Reed and Nikki were first spotted together in July 2014, and less than a year later, they got engaged and wed. Then, two years into their marriage, they got blessed with a daughter, Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder. Then, sometime in 2023, they would become a family of four.
