How Rueby Wood’s Role in “Better Nate Than Ever” Changed Him?

“Better Nate Than Ever” is a musical film showcasing what a coming-of-age story looks like from a musical theater and Broadway perspective. The story centers on Rueby Wood’s character, Nate Foster, who is said to be obsessed with being a Broadway star.

What makes this whole project special to Rueby Wood is the fact that this is his movie debut under Disney+. Although the young actor has been part of massive Broadway shows like “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” his role in “Better Nate Than Ever” changed something inside him.

In an interview, the rising actor revealed that his character in the story “Nate” has inspired him just to be himself, unapologetically, all the time, no matter the circumstances. The story revolves around a young boy eagerly chasing his dreams of becoming a Broadway star.

Being Unapologetic is Good Sometimes

Wood said that he finds the story truly amazing, as it promotes self-love and inspires the audience to find out who they really are by looking for their light. The story teaches everyone that sometimes being unapologetic is good, considering it helps one fully express one’s true authentic self.

The movie’s lesson is greatly helpful for young people still navigating the way of life. After all, kids need to be true to themselves as it will help them grow to become great adults in the future.

Moreover, Wood also shared a piece of advice that Director Tim Federle told him about. Sometimes, other people’s moods can greatly affect everybody else. So, in cases where one wakes up on the wrong side of the bed, it is not your responsibility to feel apologetic that maybe you’re the cause of why their day is going the wrong way.

Sometimes, one just needs to remember that other people’s lives don’t revolve around them. As long as you didn’t cause any trouble, focusing on your goals and self is much more important than being apologetic about other’s problems.

That’s why, even though this is Wood’s movie debut, it immediately gained so much attention, inspiring others to be better for themselves. Aside from that fact, no one can deny that Wood’s acting, singing, and dancing skills are indeed phenomenal, so it was no surprise that the movie would receive such a positive reaction from the audience.

One aspect that proved to be a stretch for him as an actor was the movie’s classroom scenes, as the Oswego, New York native has been homeschooled all his life.

In an interview, Wood revealed that it was such a new experience for him, considering he hadn’t been to many schools before. Although the experience feels strange, he still finds it fun as he finally experiences what it feels like to attend a real school.

That said, just like what Rueby Wood stated, everyone, from kids to adults, should take the movie‘s message by heart, as it is important to be unapologetic to oneself since no one will love you more than yourself.
