Is Jimmy Hurdstrom in Season 5 of Yellowstone? Let’s Find Out

Actor Jefferson White, who plays ranch hand Jimmy Hurdstrom, finally shut down the rumors that he wouldn’t be in season 5 of Yellowstone.

In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly during the promotion of the series’s season 4 DVD, White confirmed that fans would see Jimmy in season 5. “I’m in season 5. Jimmy’s in season 5.” He also added that he was feeling great and looking forward to reprising his role in the Paramount Network’s hit neo-Western drama’s latest – and, unfortunately, the last – season.

That was it, though. White wasn’t aware of what would happen to his character in the future or any specific storyline details. Ultimately, he had just given up trying to guess. “What Taylor Sheridan, the show’s creator — I think one of the best writers in television now or ever, definitely — comes up with is always so much better than what I could come up with,” he continued.

He was excited for Jimmy’s journey and ready to try to hold on to whatever road it may lead.

Why did fans think Jimmy was exiting Yellowstone for good?

Yellowstone season 4 was full of twists and turns; arguably, every season is like that. However, just something about this season gets fans every time: Jimmy’s departure from the ranch.

If you have been watching and following Yellowstone, it’s impossible not to get drawn to Jimmy and his redemption journey. That is because he started out as a professional thief and drug cook and turned his life around when he became a ranch hand for the Duttons.

However, life as a cowboy proved to be quite a feat for him, and while he had a passion for rodeo, it didn’t seem to like him back. That led him to suffer many serious injuries throughout the seasons.

He swore to John that he would never try it again after a major incident, but he just couldn’t keep away from it. In the season 3 finale, he tried again and had another tragic accident after he got bucked by a bronco. That left his fate unknown and hanging in the balance.

In the opening of season 4, he was found unconscious and rushed to the hospital, where it was revealed that he had sustained multiple fractures. In episode 2, titled ‘New Beginnings,’ fans had to say goodbye to Jimmy.

After his dangerous stint and broken promise, John told him he was no longer welcome at the Yellowstone ranch. He was then sent to the 6666 Ranch in Texas with Travis Wheatly (Taylor Sheridan)

He made a new life there and even found new love with Emily (Kathryn Kelly).

After proposing to her, they decided to share the news with Jimmy’s branded family at Yellowstone. They made their way back, and while there were some scuffles (his ex-girlfriend Mia didn’t take the news quite well), it ended on a very heartwarming noteIt was probably even the most emotional scene in the whole season.

Jimmy and Emily walked out of the trailer and saw everybody waiting for them to say their goodbyes. They went down the line, smiled, and cracked a few jokes. However, the goodbyes really got real when it was Lloyd’s time.

Lloyd was so emotional that he couldn’t even look up to Jimmy without crying. So, he walked away. Even if you have only half a heart, this moment will cut deep. Lloyd definitely saw Jimmy not just as a friend but also as a son.

Then finally, it was Rip’s turn. When Jimmy got to him, he shared four words that he never thought he would hear: “I’m proud of you.”

According to White, when Jimmy drove away into the sunset, he felt proud of his character. “I’m proud of him for making a decision for what he wants for him and Emily. I think that’s a beautiful thing.”

He also added that this was a real transition for Jimmy despite the scary uncertainty. He was allowed to make and be accountable for his own decisions. “The consequences of those decisions Jimmy can’t blame anyone for but himself, so fingers crossed it goes well for him,” he continued.

Will we see Jimmy in the franchise expansion?

We know now that Jimmy returned on Yellowstone’s fifth season, but will we see him in the latest expansions?

White said that he didn’t know anything. That was one thing he and Jimmy shared – no one told them about anything. Of course, the actor would be incredibly thrilled to work back on the set in Montana or Texas. Though, if he suddenly became unemployed, he’d get through it. “I could go back to washing dishes in Iowa,” the actor joked.

Catch Jimmy Hurdstrom on the second part of Season 5 of Yellowstone, to be released in November 2023.
