Spend the Night at the Iconic Yellowstone Dutton Ranch

The Yellowstone Dutton Ranch is the home of the rich Montana cattle baron and now Governor John Dutton and his highly unstable adult children Lee, Jamie, Beth, and Kayce along with their loyal hired hands. While the ranch and the dysfunctional family are only a product of Taylor Sheridan’s genius, the picturesque backdrop is definitely very real. And so is the alluring, extravagant rustic Western lodge.

The Dutton ranch is popularly known – in real life – as Chief Joseph Ranch located in Darby, Western Montana. It is nestled in the Bitterroot River Valley with panoramic views of blue-tinged mountains and scenic sunset. The 2,500-acre property was first homesteaded by settlers back in 1880. Then in 1914, federal judge Howard Clark Callister and glass tycoon William S. Ford bought the property and commissioned the architectural firm, Bates & Gamble, to build the jaw-dropping 6,000-square-foot main lodge.

When the show isn’t filming, the ranch doubles as a guest and working ranch and vacation spot, while the lodge serves as a private home.

Can you stay and experience the Yellowstone Dutton ranch?

Yes! While the lodge isn’t available for guest rental, there are two standalone cabins that guests and fans can enjoy for vacation stays: The Fisherman’s Cabin and The Ben Cook Cabin.

Known to fans as Lee Dutton’s cabin from Season 1 Episode 1, the Fisherman’s cabin is only 50 feet away from the main lodge. It previously served as housing for the lodge’s domestic staff, which then turned into a guest cabin utilized by fishermen – hence the name – and vacationers. It shares the same stunning views you’d see from the Dutton’s home and goes for $1,200 per night for up to four guests. But it’s spacious enough to fit in a maximum of eight with a $50 fee per additional guest.

On the other hand, The Ben Cook Cabin, which is familiarly Rip’s (and later Kayce’s) cabin from Seasons 1 and 2, is slightly larger with a base rate of $1,500 for four guests with an additional $50 per guest with a maximum of eight.

Honestly, the cost is well worth it because each reservation also includes a tour of the ranch and the show’s set and filming spots. And not only do you get to experience being a Dutton, but you also get to enjoy luxurious amenities, which include a full kitchen, washer and dryer, DirectTV, wifi, and outdoor Weber Grill. There are no stores inside the property, but there’s a small market and grocery stores nearby and larger ones in neighboring towns. The property also has fishing spots – if guests want to go full-on Dutton – and corrals and pastures that can accommodate the guests’ horses.

The cabins require a minimum 3-night stay with a 10% discount offered for 5 nights or more. As of now, the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch is not accepting bookings, but you can stay tuned for official announcements on their website.
