TLC’s ‘Welcome to Plathville’ star Moriah Plath was in tears, feeling stupid, after discovering that her ex-boyfriend Max Kallschmidt lied to her.
In an episode of the show aired on May 31, 2022, Moriah told her brother Micah that Max called her after the two talked. He admitted that he didn’t tell her the full story and even lied about the kiss.
As it turned out, Max did more than just kiss another woman. Then Micah responded to her, saying he honestly suspected it.
Max Kallschmidt was first introduced on the show in its second season aired in 2020 when the two started dating. By season 3, their relationship grew closer than ever. Max gave Moriah a promise ring, and they even planned to move out and take on the challenge of living together in Tampa.
The whole family, as well as fans, were very supportive of them, and everyone really thought that Moriah Plath would be marrying her first boyfriend. And by the end of the season, Moriah finally moved from her small hometown in Georgia to Florida, where Max was from.
Unfortunately, they hit a rough patch and ultimately didn’t have a happy ending.
The couple split in November 2021, and for their privacy, they declined to reveal any of the details of their breakup. Then things started to spill, and leading up to the launch of Season 4, Max uploaded a now-deleted video on his YouTube channel confirming the cheating speculations that had been going around.
According to the video, he shared that he wasn’t getting along with Moriah’s older brother Ethan and his wife Olivia, which surprised many fans. On top of that, the pressure to move in with them and Moriah made things more frustrating for him as he faced business struggles at the time.
He also revealed that they were starting to fight more and communicate less. Then eventually, the cheating happened.
Max said he went out one night as a wingman for his friend. There, he met a woman with whom he crossed boundaries that he shouldn’t have. That said, he insisted that he didn’t sleep with her.
After that, they decided to spend time alone – a month without communication – to give themselves space to grow. Max shared that he got himself into therapy while Moriah focused on her music career. When they decided to talk, the two realized that as much as they loved each other, they just wanted to remain friends.
In Moriah’s conversation with Micah, she started to cry. She admitted feeling stupid because she felt like she should have known. Her brother comforted her and told her she shouldn’t feel that way. “He lied to me — he lied to everyone in our family — just so he wouldn’t look quite as bad. I completely lost respect for him,” he said.
The betrayal hit Moriah so hard because, as she told Micah, she felt she had given him everything. She felt worthless and let down after what had happened. Even after so much hurt, Moriah chose the high road and did not divulge anything. She said, “There’s no reason for me to embarrass him like that, but I didn’t just leave him for no reason.”

She also went on to look back and reflect on their relationship, and she realized that maybe it wasn’t as good as she thought it was. And she just didn’t see it then because she was in it.
Moriah remembered one instance when Max told her that she cheated on him by what she wore. The show then cuts to a flashback wherein he asks her if her confidence relies on her showing her ass to people. He even added that he felt that there was a difference in style and that Moriah was trying to ‘look busty for other guys.’
Ultimately, the breakup with Matt proved to be a healthy choice for the ‘Welcome to Plathville’ star Moriah Plath. It also made her realize that it was not worth it to ever put up with somebody who gives you less than you deserve.
