The series follows Mary Kay “Mikey” McCall as she realizes her dream retro-inspired plant shop business with her sister Joanna Gaines.
If you’ve been following the family, you’d probably remember the shop when it appeared in March 2021 at the Silos Compound at the Magnolia Market, a massive property owned by the Gaineses in downtown Waco, Texas. At the time, she didn’t have what people would call a proper storefront, so she ran her pop-up shop, which was dubbed Ferny’s, out of her modified 1967 Yellowstone Cavelier.
In an Instagram post, Mikey shared that she had imagined calling it “The Yellow Submarine.” She dreamed of traveling the country in an old camper while searching for vintage items to sell at her shop. And that desire of hers never really went away.

As for her love of plants, her journey started in 2014. At first, she was a notorious plant killer, but one day, she managed to keep a zebra plant gifted by a friend alive. Then that one plant turned to five, then 20, until it became a therapeutic hobby for her.
Joanna celebrated Mikey’s business opening with a tribute on Instagram. Her caption praised her sister’s sense of wonder and heart for adventure. She said that those two things, blended with her love of plants and anything vintage, allowed her to create something truly special.
She continued that it had been Mikey’s dream for so many years, and she patiently waited for her time to step out and pursue it. Especially with six kids, she had to keep this stirring quietly in her heart. Joanna was happy to see her go for it and excited to witness what she would do with it.

The series will surely touch on the design aspects, showing off the sisters’ skills and creativity in renovating. Aside from that, it will also give viewers a peek at their close relationship and family dynamics. Hopefully, it’d also inspire those who want to improve their homes and those looking for a sign to start their own business.
Magnolia Network, owned by Warner Bros. Discovery (a company created from the merger of Discovery Inc. and WarnerMedia), is run by the famed Fixer-Upper husband and wife, Chip and Joanna Gaines.
