Building a home together wasn’t easy, but Top Chef winner Kristen Kish and her wife Bianca Dusic made it work by combining elements of Kish’s minimalistic style and Dusic’s textures and patterns. They both had no experience with interior design, and they were more familiar with restaurants than homes, which she described as “a whole different ball game.”
However, it is safe to say that Bianca had an eye for the bigger picture. As for her, she needed to get back into it, and thankfully, her wife had been so patient with her.

Enlisting the help of AllModern, they decided to start on the middle ground. So, the main theme of their home leans more toward the minimalistic style, with soft textures and patterns spread throughout.
According to Kish, this was a great way to give their home base a blank canvas, swapping, adding, and removing pieces as they saw fit. Additionally, it would leave room for growth and her ever-changing want for change.
First, we have the dining room, one of their favorite places to hang out in and the only space where they had a splash of color.

They had a few standout pieces featured: a Cassie Upholstered Steel Arm Chair in green and gold, which served as their accent chair and which Kich unexpectedly loved, the solid and muted Eloise Dining Table, which the chef dressed up using statement cutlery (especially when hosting lunches and dinners), and the patterned rug that tied everything together.
For their kitchen, Kish’s territory, they toned down the color and opted for a clean white look with chrome accents. They had spacious storage and an island with three high, dark wooden chairs, which added elegance and contrast to the whole room.
Then there’s their big living room following the same color palette as the kitchen with the addition of grays and wood. They also had plants and art for a warm, cozy, and homey feeling. According to the chef, they made the space as such because it was a room where they would entertain family and friends.

Their bedroom was just as cozy as their living room, as this was the couple’s place where they could unwind. They picked out neutral hues as well and paired them with soft textures.
Aside from the styling, one other thing that Kish ensured was injected into the design was efficiency. She said that she wanted her home set up just like a kitchen, where everything had its own place. The rationale was that when things are placed where they need to go, muscle memory would naturally develop in time.
It was important to her that her home made sense and not just simply looked nice. “I don’t like clutter and I like everything to make sense in my brain,” she added.
Of course, they wanted their home not just for them as a couple but also to share it with the ones they love. So they were definitely looking forward to really enjoying the place and having people over.
Kristen Kish and Bianca Dusic married in April 2021 in a simple backyard ceremony. In an Instagram post about their relationship milestone, Kish wrote that she threw on her favorite blazer, had their family with them virtually, got all sappy with their vows written in hand, and did the damn thing.
Kristen Kish and Bianca Dusic created a beautiful home of their own, and if you want to check out their item picks, you can do so in this mini AllModern tour.
