However, she was ultimately ‘challenged’ when many of her friends and family members messaged her saying she should do the post and tag them in it. Richards didn’t expect such requests from her loved ones. As a result, she ultimately decided to post the picture, which garnered much attention.

Richards stated in an interview that she feared the photo would surface when she joined RHOBH. The photos were also previously exhibited in a gallery, making Richards worried they might be leaked online without her consent. The thought that the photos might be used against her also made her worry.
The said photo was actually taken years ago for her husband, Mauricio Umansky, for Valentine’s Day. The couple first met at a nightclub called Bar One. After a few months of dating, in that same year, Umansky eventually proposed to Richards. As of 2023, they have been married for almost 27 years already.
In an interview, she stated that she was nervous about taking it. But when asked to do the #RHOBH challenge, she was so nervous that it might affect her when she returned to the show. She states that the photo was so Risque, which she thought would be scandalous to many.
However, the photos garnered much more positive attention than Richards had expected. The portrait was created by an artist named Beau Dunn in 2018. Although it may seem to depict Richards in a vulnerable state, many still saw it as something empowering.
In her Instagram post, Richards also shared her fear as she explained that she ultimately decided to embrace the portrait and share it publicly to take control of her narrative and express her own agency.
