Luke Combs rarely discusses politics, but in a recent interview with the Independent, he offers his thoughts on the tone of American politics in 2023. The musician expressed his opinion that the political climate in America is “contentious” and that “nobody can even agree to disagree.”
These observations reaffirm the message of his song “The Great Divide,” a song he collaborated with Billy Strings in 2021. The song presents Luke as apolitical. In it, he and Billy sang on the expanding ideological gap in America.

Even though the song exhorts for unity, Luke finds himself at the center of a dispute after its release. Margo Price soon afterward posted pictures of Luke with Confederate flag symbols. Two of the images were screenshots from music videos from 2015, and one appeared to show a Confederate flag sticker on Combs’ guitar.
