It was no secret that singer-songwriter Jimmie Allen and his wife, Alexis Gale, had a whirlwind relationship after meeting in the Spring of 2019. They’ve been married for nearly three years, sharing three kids.
Of course, all relationships go through rough patches. In April 2023, the two announced they were calling quits on their marriage. Along with it was the news that they were pregnant with their third child.
A few months later, Allen said they were working together to resolve things as a family. Last October, a rep for the country star shared with PEOPLE that the couple’s divorce was “never fully seen through legally,” and they have reconciled.
Here’s a timeline of their whole story throughout the years years.

Jimmie Allen and Alexis Gale first knew each other through his cousin’s wife. They connected on Facebook and Instagram, with Allen liking several of Gale’s photos. However, it wasn’t until much later that they met in person.
When they finally did, Allen thought he was prepared enough. Sharing with PEOPLE about their first encounter, he said that he had this whole thing put together that he would say.
However, that “smooth Jimmie” didn’t show up. All he could muster when he saw her was a “hi.”
Luckily, the night didn’t go to a complete waste. As they were leaving, he grabbed her phone, asked if it was hers, and then snatched that opportunity to give her his number.
The two hung out after that on study dates since Gale was finishing nursing school and preparing for her licensing exams. She said those moments made her realize how much Allen cared about her and her future.
Just a few months later, in June, they were Instagram official. It was a cute snap of them taken at a radio event in Michigan. Gale wrote in the caption, “Life’s pretty okay with you in it.” Shortly after, they celebrated Allen’s 34th birthday, his first with her.
He was absolutely certain that he wanted to spend the next and the rest of his birthdays with her.
So, on July 15, 2019, he proposed to her at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom with family and friends as witnesses. In a later interview, the country star said that being from the same hometown, it felt like he always had a piece of home with him. Because of that, they had an immediate connection as if they had always known one another.
The next day, Gale featured her gorgeous engagement ring on Instagram.
In November, the newly-engaged couple made their red carpet debut at the SESAC Awards. And they also had a surprise with them: a baby bump. The next day, they confirmed they were expecting their first and announced it was a baby girl!
Allen was very happy to become a girl dad. He said that he heard daughters make dads better people, and he was so ready to meet his little princess and give her all the love. He was also excited to see her and his son, Aadyn, grow up together.
A few days later, they once again walked the red carpet for the CMA Awards. Gale wore a silky pink gown featuring her gorgeous bump.
2020
On March 1, 2020, the couple finally welcomed their baby girl, Naomi Bettie, to the world. Her middle name was a tribute to Allen’s grandmother.
In an interesting coincidence, Allen’s hit song “Make Me Want To” hit number one on the charts that same day. However, Allen made it clear that the birth of his daughter was the best part of that day. Getting number one was simply a bonus.
Aside from Naomi’s arrival, 2020 was memorable for the singer as he became the first black artist since Darius Rucker in 2009 to earn a nomination for the New Artist of the Year at the CMAs.

2021 was definitely a big year for Allen and Gale. That is because, on May 27, 2021, they said their “I Dos” to each other.
The ceremony was held at The Lake House Inn in Perkasie, Pennsylvania. However, they later revealed that they were already married a year ago, in June (on Allen’s 35th birthday), in a secret private ceremony.
Then, in June, they shared with fans that they would be parents again! Allen did a montage of scenes from “Knocked Up,” “Hamilton,” and “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” for his announcement, while Gale posted a set of maternity photos, including one with her kids Naomi and Aadyn.
Shortly after the announcement, Allen revealed on The Sam Alex Show that they were having yet another baby girl! He also said that he wanted to name her after actress Maisie Williams’ character on Game Of Thrones, Arya Stark, because he was a huge fan of the show.
However, his wife wouldn’t let that happen. They were also preparing for a boy, so they didn’t have anything on the list yet (except for his suggestion).
Then, on June 18, Gale greeted her husband with a happy birthday and first wedding anniversary.
Aside from getting married and adding another family member, the couple also got featured in the PEOPLE family issue. In their sit-down interview, they shared how excited they were to meet their second baby.
Allen also talked about how Gale changed his views. Before, he only wanted to be a dad. Marriage wasn’t part of the equation. Then, he was both – a dad and a married man.
He also published a children’s book, “My Voice Is a Trumpet,” which he wrote for his kids. He said, “I wanted to give them confidence to stand up for what they believe in.”
On October 16, Gale gave birth to their second daughter, Zara James, in Nashville. Then, in November, Allen made history when he finally won the CMA Award for New Artist of the Year, which he was nominated for last year.
However, the year wasn’t all happy and smiles. On November 23, five-week-old Zara was rushed to the hospital after she stopped breathing. She was diagnosed with Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and battled it for five days.
She came through, and then her symptoms started improving. After the whole situation passed, Gale penned a thank you to all the medical staff who took care of her baby.
To end the year, they celebrated Christmas together as a family of five.
2022
Allen welcomed 2022 with a sweet tribute for his wife’s 26th birthday. He wrote that there were days when he felt frustrated and exhausted, but Gale always reminded him of his purpose.
Additionally, she was always there for him as his rock and a force to keep him pushing forward. He also said that watching her mother their children was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
In March, Allen shared some of his thoughts about parenthood with Entertainment Tonight. He said that going from two kids to three was a big jump, and they were definitely outnumbered.
As much as he loved his kids, he didn’t want another baby. Then on PEOPLE Every Day podcast, he clarified that it was Gale’s idea and it was her who’d bear the most burden.
He also said that he was cool if she was done. His jerseys were already retired, though they did talk about having another one in a couple of years. However, they would just see, and whatever happens, happens.

On April 21, 2023, the couple surprised fans when they announced via Instagram that they decided to divorce. In their post, they said the decision came after months of reflection and was mutual.
Then they also dropped another bomb: They were expecting their third child. They emphasized that their children were their top priority, ensuring they were always well cared for and loved. So, they were committed to co-parenting with love and respect for each other.
Following the announcement, Gale unfollowed Allen on Instagram and made a cryptic post on her Story, saying, “The silence is loud enough for me.”
Then, days later, Allen filed for divorce in Williamson County, Tennessee, citing irreconcilable difference as the reason. Gale followed with her own petition.
On May 11, Allen’s former manager sued him for assault and sexual abuse. The singer denied all the allegations but acknowledged that they had a sexual relationship that went on for two years.
He even went as far as to say that they had a good relationship and friendship at the time. However, when things ended between them, she hired a lawyer and asked for money, leading him to question her motives.
In less than a month, he got hit with another assault lawsuit.
Fortunately, amid the chaos, there was also a blessing. On Mother’s Day, Gale revealed they were expecting a baby boy! Then, on September 27, they finally met him and named him Cohen Ace James.
Allen had since apologized to Gale for his affair and for humiliating her with it. He also apologized to his kids for being a poor example of a man and a father. As for the lawsuits the country star’s facing, they’re still ongoing.
Jimmie Allen and Alexis Gale’s relationship is definitely on the rocks. However, they are reportedly still together and working on their marriage.
