Released in May 2022, Alone Season 9 had everyone gripping their seats. They went on another challenging ride to see a new batch of contestants trying their best to survive harsh climates, hoping to win $500,000.

The survivors must try to survive the severe snowy weather offered by Northeastern Labrador, Canada. They also try to fight off the predators willing to feast on them whenever they drop their guard.

The rules are simple. Contestants will be dropped off far enough never to meet each other and given a grace period starting in autumn, where they will have to figure out how to survive the harsh winter.
They can choose ten types of survival gear from the approved 40 types while having their kit and change of clothes. They are also given cameras to document their experience.
The only problem is that food scarcity will be much more challenging due to the lowering temperatures. It’s already hard to find food in the wild, and a snow-filled land will bring in a new level of cruelty for the contestants. After all, they also have to worry about getting hypothermia, having the snow cover all the edible plants, and even fending off polar bears.
With the show starting with ten contestants, the problems began to get worse with frostbite, vitamin deficiency, and trying to build a sturdy enough shelter to keep warm and survive. The number of contestants started to get lower until only two were left.

Juan Pablo Quiñonez and Karie Lee Knoke were the last two as they went neck and neck with each other in a battle for survival. It was a battle on who could endure starvation the longest.
Both contestants had to endure their constant hunger pangs on top of harsh weather conditions with limited supply. Alone, Season 9 wouldn’t be a part of the survival show without making its contestants struggle.
Juan Pablo Quiñonez is an outdoor professional with over ten years of experience. Karie Lee Knoke is a wilderness instructor who grew up outdoors.
They are two worthy contestants with adequate survival experience and skills to last them for a long time. Although no matter how good you can be, the wilderness is a brutal and cruel place that shows no mercy.
Many people were rooting for Karie Lee Knoke because her win would finally make her the first female contestant to win the competition for the nine seasons it had been running. It was a bitter end for her on the 75th day as her body could not take any more of the food deprivation they had to endure towards the end of the show.
The constant malnutrition the contestants faced proved too much for Karie Lee Knoke’s 57-year-old body compared to her younger opponent. Still, she did put up a good fight as she endured the wet and snowy conditions of the Canadian wilderness. Even if she didn’t exactly win, she showed herself to be an expert survivalist as she lived out harsh conditions before the 75th day.
The person who won the $500,000 was Juan Pablo Quiñonez. He proved to be the better expert survivalist by conserving his energy when he knew food was near impossible in such a cold environment.
