After having two boys in their family, Carlos and Alexa Penavega’s baby, Rio Rey, was introduced to the public in a Christmas music video by Carlos and his band, Big Time Rush. The couple has been very open to having another child and was indeed blessed as Rio Rey Penavega was born on May 21, 2021. However, the couple later revealed that baby number three was not supposed to be delivered that day.
The Big Surprise

Carlos and Alexa tied the knot in Mexico in January 2014; since then, we have witnessed their incredible journey to parenthood. In an Instagram post, Alexa wrote, “You may have a PLAN for your life, but all that really matters is HIS plan. Little Rio could not wait to come out and play with her brothers! Momma is feeling good and baby girl is kicking some serious booty in the NICU”.
The reason for the past was that Carlos and Alexa Penavega’s baby came out before her due date.
The Penevega baby was supposed to be due in June, yet Rio surprised her parents and ditched her due date. The couple didn’t have much time to process everything since they rushed to the hospital, where Alexa delivered Rio after long hours of labor. It was difficult for the family, especially for Alexa and Rio Rey.
Carlos always makes his wife appreciate everything she has done for them. On Mother’s Day, the Big Time Rush member wrote, “I lift up my wifey @vegaalexa on this Mother’s Day. YOU ARE A CHAMP! I could never do what you do. The best momma to our 2 boys and now little girl. Thank you for being a solid rock for this family,”.
Carlos and Alexa’s Struggle Toward Parenthood

Although motherhood is a blissful journey to be celebrated, the Penavega’s had a lot of struggles arriving to where they are now. Alexa once realized how hard it was for them to have a child.
In an interview, she said that they tried hard to conceive a child at an early age and learned many things a long way. After a long time of testing, they eventually just let go and stated,” When God wants us to have a baby, we’re gonna have a baby, and that’s it.”
Another wave that tested the married couple was baby Rio’s stay at the NICU after birth. As she was a month earlier than her supposed date of birth, Carlos and Alexa’s baby must be monitored in the intensive care unit.
However, after a week, Rio was finally released and returned to her parents. Later, the couple thanked the medical staff in Maui and Oahu, which helped them bring their third bundle of joy.

Carlos and Alexa had many struggles throughout their married life and their journey of building a family. This might be why the couple can’t help but gush and talk about their little children whenever possible.
In one of her interviews, the actress shared that her children didn’t quite like Spy Kids and preferred The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl instead. Although this left quite a bit of a sting on their mother, the Penevega is often seen sharing their family pictures on social media, with their three children smiling and having fun.
After almost nine years of marriage, the Spy Kids actress and Big Time Rush member were blessed with three beautiful kids. And as Carlos and Alexa Penevega’s baby, Rio gave her parents a shock on her birth, and we can’t help but keep watch and anticipate more surprises from them.
