For this scoop session, the burning question is whether Monica lives or dies in Yellowstone. And the answer is: Monica is still very much alive even after multiple near-death experiences.
But hold your horses (pun very much intended).
We all know that no character is safe in the series and that it thrives on bloodshed and killing off anyone that needs to be gone. And so, Monica’s fate can still change this upcoming season. And who knows? Maybe it would be her last. Some fans think so, with all the ominous clues in the previous season. And don’t worry, we’ll update you if that happens.

For now, let’s take a recap of Monica’s moments that made fans doubt if she would really make it.
S01E06: The Remembering
Monica Long Dutton (Kelsey Asbille) was accidentally punched in the head by one of the teenage students at school as she was breaking up a fight. She hit the floor and passed out with a small pool of blood forming under her head. She eventually recovered from the injury thanks to the quick medical treatment by the school nurse – or so viewers thought.
Later in the episode’s final scene, Monica collapsed onto the ground near her home’s front steps. Her husband Kayce (Luke Grimes) rushed toward her and checked her pulse. He then went on to perform CPR on her. In the last shot, he was seen repeatedly trying to wake her up but to no avail.
In the follow-up episode “A Monster Is Among Us,” Monica underwent emergency surgery for an epidural hematoma. She made it out alive, although it did significantly impact her physical health and her character arc as well.
S04E01: Half The Money; Phantom Pain Part 1
Monica found herself in another life-threatening situation, and this time, she had more to lose than just her life.
In the intense opening sequence of Season 4’s pilot episode, in a continuation of the attacks against the Duttons in the previous season finale, Monica and her son Tate (Brecken Merrill) were the next victims.
Monica and Tate were inside the Dutton home when her husband Kayce called her to warn her about an incoming attack after he narrowly survived one. That was when a masked man attacked Monica. They struggled, and Monica ended up getting badly injured while the attacker lost hold of his gun. As the attacker attempted to reach for his gun, Tate entered the scene and shot the man with a rifle. But that wasn’t the end of it. As the mother and son made their way into the bunkhouse, they had to take out a myriad of attackers on the property.
They weren’t shown again until the last few minutes of Episode 3, “All I See Is You,” where Kayce brought dinner upstairs to their room. Monica was visibly upset while Tate was hiding under the bed. They survived the attacks, but the attacks heavily put a strain between Kayce and Monica. That is, Kayce made sure to let his wife know that he was blaming her for their son’s trauma.
Will Monica survive Season 5?
In the upcoming Season 5 of Yellowstone, fans are theorizing that Monica, who is now pregnant with a second, will finally succumb to death after major foreshadowing in Kayce’s vision which involves an owl and a bad omen. According to a Reddit user, in the season 4 finale, Kayce was sitting and lying around when he saw an owl fly past. In Native American culture, seeing an owl means death is coming. Well, we’ll see. So stay tuned!
