When Donald first joined the show, he weighed 675 pounds and was seen to have trouble walking. Donald, unlike the other participants, struggled with drug addiction in addition to his food addiction. Both problems harmed his self-esteem and motivated him to change his lifestyle.
He went to Texas during the first season of My 600-lb Life to seek assistance from Dr. Now, the show’s host. Donald lost enough weight to undergo gastric bypass surgery thanks to Dr. Now’s stringent diet and fitness regimen, which resulted in additional weight loss down to 295 pounds.
However, the treatment left him with walking problems, and he eventually fell into a coma, which caused his Guillain-Barre syndrome to be discovered. In this rare condition, the patient’s immune system targets the nerves, resulting in weakness and tingling in the hands and feet. As a result, Donald can no longer walk, and he now uses a wheelchair.
