A Decade Worth of Wait: Chance the Rapper and Wife Kirsten Corley’s Love Story

Did you know it was not until a decade after they first met that Chance the Rapper and his wife, Kirsten Corley, finally got together? Yes, you heard it right. The award-winning Rapper could only snatch the love of his life after seeing each other after ten years.

The couple’s love story began when they were just kids. Chance the Rapper said in a 2019 Twitter thread that Kirsten was the prettiest girl he had ever seen when they first met when he was nine.

Chance, a dancer himself, fell in love after witnessing his future bride and her friends perform their cover of a classic Destiny’s Child song at a party. He stated that despite his father’s encouragement to go out and dance with the ladies, he refused to take away from her moment.

They then crossed paths again during the 2012 SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas. They started dating once they got back to Chicago, and exactly ten years after their initial meeting, the two made things official. Three years into their relationship, the pair decided to put their romance on hold in 2016, although they got back together afterward.

Chance the Rapper proposed to Kirsten at a Chicago backyard celebration on July 4, 2018. The following day, he tweeted to confirm the engagement, stating that Kirsten had accepted his proposal.

On March 9, 2019, the pair exchanged vows at the Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, California. Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, and Dave Chappelle were famous guests who attended the wedding with their daughter, Kensli, who served as their flower girl. Chance looked sharp in a black-and-white tux while Kirsten donned the Alma gown by Galia Lahav.

Chance and Kirsten welcomed their first kid, Kensli, and announced the news on Instagram on September 21, 2015. Marli, their second daughter, was born to the couple on August 29, 2019. Kirsten used a picture of the newborn to share the news on Instagram.

However, just like most new mothers, Kirsten Corley’s journey to motherhood was not easy. Kirsten later publicly admitted that she suffered from postpartum depression.

Chance, the Rapper’s wife, stated, “Postpartum does not get any easier- even with your second, but it will always be worth it for my babies. I can’t wait to watch you grow up.”

Despite all that, Chance the Rapper and his wife, Kirsten Corley, were able to strengthen their relationship through the struggles they had experienced. After seeing her wife having a hard time, the musician canceled most tours and stayed with his family. Kirsten was also able to stay strong for her children and recover eventually.

Later on, Kirsten Corley founded World of BOBY. The brand’s website states that the inspiration for World of BOBY came from a desire to see greater diversity and inclusivity in the children’s clothing industry.

BOBY was also featured on WGN News in May 2022. Kirsten discussed how the business promotes tolerance, diversity, and mental health awareness there.

Their company’s pop-up stores opened in various locations to give moms a safe space. Kirsten highlights that they also provided them with a community to discuss their experiences and struggles as they embark on the parenting journey.

According to her LinkedIn page, Kirsten Corley studied psychology at DePaul University in Chicago from 2011 to 2013, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from that institution. On June 15, 2014, she uploaded a picture on Instagram of her graduation.

When Kirsten discussed her clothing business with Essence in June 2022, she revealed that she temporarily attended the Art Institute of Chicago. She initially wanted to pursue fashion marketing but ultimately decided not to continue. When Kirsten started BOBY, she could use the skills she had acquired in the program.

She also discussed the influence of her psychology degree on how she raised her children and how it aided her personal development. Kirsten could make sense of the difficulties she faced as a new parent by telling herself that she would not always be perfect and that this was okay. She added that she might practice patience and give herself time to acknowledge her flaws.

As the couple continued exploring the ups and downs of married life and parenthood, they learned many things. In an Instagram post, Kirsten admitted that she and Chance the Rapper’s family are imperfect. Yet, they do their best to create a “home rooted in Love and Grace.”

Kirsten also mentioned how they instill powerful ideas into their children, especially their eldest, Kensli. Chance the Rapper stated that they want their eldest daughter to understand that her opinions are important and that being black is her superpower.

The father of two admitted that teaching their children to value themselves in a very selfish world is hard, and that is reality. But even with how hard it might be, he will not miss the opportunity to change how things are for the betterment of his kid’s future.

Chance the Rapper and his wife Kirsten Corley’s love story started from a childhood crush. The couple had faced a lot of struggles and challenges, which tested their relationship, but they were able to overcome them. It might have taken them a decade to finally find their way back together, but both agreed that the wait was worth it.
