TV personality Ross Mathews has officially entered a new chapter in his life as the husband of Long Island educational administration, Dr. Wellinthon Garcia. Their love story was straight from a romantic movie.
The Pandemic Love Story
It all started back in 2020. Matthews and Dr. Garcia met in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, while they were on a holiday just before the horrifying coronavirus pandemic hit.
They hit it off, but the world was suddenly forced into a lockdown. Physical dates turned into hours-long conversations over Zoom where they would catch up and go deep to get to know each other more.
According to Matthews, the whole thing may have seemed impersonal because they were just talking through a screen, but it helped cultivate their relationship. Dr. Garcia definitely agreed with it.
He said, “Absolutely, we really got to know each other. We had a series of questions that we would write down just so we could get to know each other … It was beautiful.”
The couple got engaged a year into dating, and their announcement nabbed headlines. Matthews said that they had been so in love for the past year.

Though as much as it was something lovely, it still felt so scary to let the world know about their relationship. Thankfully, fans and the rest of the public’s reactions were all amazingly kind to the couple. Everyone was just so happy for them.
There was actually a funny story about their engagement. Did you know that Dr. Garcia walked out when Matthews proposed to him? Yes, he really did.
After they spilled their secret on social media, they started discussing the details of their engagement. Little did Garcia know that Matthews sneakily organized a big Zoom party with family, friends, and co-workers to pop the question.
At first, he didn’t quite get it, but it all clicked when Matthews said, “It all started with a rooftop pool and a burrito,” referring to the first time they met. Then he lost it when Matthews finally got down on one knee.
The TV personality started laughing and told him he needed to be with him for the next part. However, everything was all good when he came back. Matthews asked him, and he said, “Of course.”
Then on May 27, 2022, they made a full circle. They tied the knot in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where they first met. The ceremony occurred at Almar Resort, where Matthew’s co-host on The Drew Barrymore Show, actress Drew Barrymore herself, was their flower girl.

We all know Ross Mathews with his impressive career resume in the entertainment industry, including RuPaul’s Drag Race. On the other hand, his husband, Dr. Wellinthon Garcia, leans on the low-profile side.
Speaking with Drew Barrymore on the segment Drews News of The Drew Barrymore Show, Matthews shared that his then-fiance – a hilarious and the smartest person he had ever met – was an educator. Specifically, he was (and still is) a curriculum director at the Elmont School District in Long Island.
He graduated from Hofstra University, a private university in Long Island, New York. According to the university’s website, Garcia earned a Doctorate of Education in Educational and Policy Leadership in 2017.
Since then, he has advocated for his students by providing them worthwhile experiences through partnerships with organizations like Junior Achievement of New York to help them explore different career paths.
Outside of his work, Dr. Garcia described himself as a man with quirky mannerisms. In an interview with ET, he said that it was something that Matthews genuinely loved about him. That was a sign of his husband’s unconditional love for him and that he wanted to give back to him every day.
Ross Mathews and his husband, Dr. Wellinthon Garcia, are definitely enjoying the new chapter of their lives together. While Matthews’ late mom, who had been very close to him, died before he married Garcia, he was sure she would have loved his husband and would be very happy to see them together. ????❤️????
