We’ll be saying goodbye to our favorite Jewish comedienne as The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel takes its final bow with season 5. Amazon Prime Video made the announcement last February 2022 on Instagram.
While we’ll all be sad to see the show end, we can all take comfort that the Emmy-winning series is saying goodbye right when it needed to be.

Co-showrunner Daniel Palladino shared with The Hollywood Reporter that he and creator Amy Sherman-Palladino knew exactly where they wanted the series to end. He continued, saying that this season, they had the last markers they wanted to hit toward the end that they knew from the beginning.
Mrs. Maisel herself, Rachel Brosnahan, also assured fans in an Instagram snap that this would be ‘one hell of a final chapter.’ If there’s anyone we should trust, it should be her.
So, what should we expect from Mrs. Maisel in Season 5? Let’s find out.
Introducing the Life of Mrs. Maisel
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, created by Gilmore Girls’ Sherman-Palladino, premiered in November 2017. The series travels back in time to the late 1950s to the early ’60s, following a Jewish American housewife in New York City who goes by the name of Midge Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan). Midge’s seemingly perfect life takes a 180-degree turn when her husband, Joel (Michael Zegen), leaves her after confessing that he has an affair with his secretary.
While it was tragic, it proved to be Midge’s luck. Drunk and prattling about her new life onstage at the Gaslight Club, Susie Myerson (Alex Borstein) and the rest of the audience realized she had it in her to be a great comedy artist.
Right there and then, a stand-up comedienne was born – and was immediately arrested for indecency. Susie bailed her out, and their journey through the “sexist, hilarious, heartbreaking world of stand-up comedy” began.
The show was met with so much love and praise, and as Entertainment Weekly wrote, “Period pieces are award darlings,” and it was.
It won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in its first season. Rachel Brosnahan, Alex Borstein, and Tony Shalhoub have also been nominated for all four seasons in their respective categories and bagged an award at least once. Not to mention that the series also won several for its spectacular costumes and styling.
In total, Mrs. Maisel has won a total of 20 Emmy Awards and is considered one of the biggest hits on Prime Video.
One Hell of a Final Chapter – Tits Up!
Jennifer Salke, Amazon Studios Head, said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter that the show has “blazed an unparalleled path” and allowed stories that we tell about women on TV to be elevated. She continued, saying that the series’ success will be felt beyond the final season, and she couldn’t wait for fans to savor the last episodes of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
In February 2022, just before Season 4 premiered, Brosnahan posted a snap on Instagram of her new script. Along with it, she shared that they had already begun filming season 5. “It’s also going to be our last rodeo. Rest assured our tits are up and it’s going to be a hell of a final chapter. Stay tuned ✨.”
Then, in November 2022, Brosnahan took to Instagram to share a wrap-up photo. She penned a short caption about the last five years of being on the show.

She described her experience in the show as “lightning in a bottle” and that she, along with the creators and crew, was able to travel back in time together. She adds that it was an experience that definitely changed her whole life.
However, Midge held off being emotional about it and said she’d have more words later. Borstein, on the other hand, didn’t. Sharing her thoughts after finishing The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5, she openly admitted how emotional she was about it.
In her caption, Borstein wrote that she told herself she wouldn’t get too close and wouldn’t fall in love. Despite that, there she was with her heart fractured.
She definitely loved playing a fun, flawed character like Susie. Teasing the fans during the red carpet at the 2022 Emmy Awards, she said, “Season 5 for Susie is fun because she’s really growing and branching out and getting a little bit ahead of herself and constantly trying to kind of catch up to her own success in this season.”

Last March 2023, Prime Video finally announced that Mrs. Maisel would be back for the last time on screen on April 14.
After that, they also dropped a minute-and-a-half trailer, showing what’s in store for Midge. The clip opens with Midge saying, “I want a big life. I want to break every single rule there is.”
It looks like she really did that. In the next few scenes, she signs autographs to young women whom she has inspired and slowly realizes the major star status she has been dreaming of since Season 1.
Of course, that didn’t mean everything would be easy. As she said, “It’s two steps forward and three steps back.” Now the question is: Will she be able to conquer her problems and really fulfill her destiny? We’ll also finally know whether Midge and Lenny Bruce (Luke Kirby) will end up together or not.
The show premiered three episodes on April 14, and subsequent installments were spooled out weekly. It made its final bow with the final curtain call on May 26.
Aside from the series’ main cast, we’ll be seeing Alfie Fuller (Susie’s assistant, Dinah Rutledge) and Jason Ralph (Brosnahan’s husband who played Mike Carr, the TV booker) as regulars, season 4 breakout cast members Gideon Glick (Alfie) and Reid Scott (Gordon Ford). Of course, Gilmore Girls alums Kelly Bishop (Bendetta, the matchmaker) and Milo Ventimiglia (the Handsome Man Midge met in Central Park).
