Wendy Williams Addresses Transgender Rumors: “I Get It”

In a 2014 interview with ABC News, talk show host Wendy Williams finally set the record straight about her sexuality: She isn’t transgender.

The topic arose when she was asked about Laverne Cox, the first transgender to earn an Emmy nomination. Instead of answering the question, Williams decided it was the perfect time to address the long-churning rumor mill that she was born a man.

She said that it was absolutely not true, but at the same time, she did get why people thought that she was. She had a strong face and body, not to mention that she was also 5’11”.

On top of that, the fact that she also wore wigs made it more convincing to many that she wasn’t a woman. So, she never really got upset with it.

However, that didn’t mean she liked being called a man. For her, there was no worse way to insult a woman than to say she looked like a man.

She continued, “But once a woman gets over that, there is no stronger woman. It rolls off her back when you say it.”

That was the case for her. She learned to get over it, and when she did, there was nothing people could call her that would get to her. Plus, it had been going on for decades.

Aside from people calling her transgender, Wendy Williams also revealed that she had been dealing with verbal abuse for years. When she was young, she would receive fat-shaming comments from her parents. Williams also didn’t grow up popular, didn’t have a lot of boyfriends, and never got the chance to attend prom. It was certainly a terrible childhood.
