San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado and his wife, Yainee Alonso, have been married since 2014. They have always kept their relationship lowkey and private, and so there’s a lot that people don’t know about her. If anything, fans might only know her as his supportive wife.
So, here’s everything we know about the love of Machado’s life.
Who is Yainee?

Yainee Alonso was born in Havana, Cuba, to parents Luis and Damaris Alonso. She had one sibling, Yonder. They defected from Cuba in 1996 and settled in Miami as a family.
Her father played for the Industriales of the Cuban National Series and also coached the team. And at a young age, he taught Yonder how to play baseball. He attended the University of Miami, where he played college baseball for the Hurricanes.
After graduating, he made a decade-long professional career out of it, joining Major League Baseball (MLB) as a first baseman. Among the various teams he played for were the Cincinnati Reds, with whom he first signed his major league contract, and the San Diego Padres.
He retired in November 2020 and joined the MLB Network’s on-air personalities as an analyst in April 2021.
While Yonder played baseball, Yainee was busy with her academic studies. She finished her pre-med degree in December 2012 from the same university as her brother’s.
How did she meet Manny Machado?

Yainee first met Manny through her brother Yonder.
The two boys, both baseball players, first got connected in 2009 – Manny was a teenager then, and Yonder was five years his senior. Despite the age gap, the two became close friends. Then came Yainee, and there were three.
They were friends for years before Manny finally asked Yonder for permission to date his sister. In the winter of 2011, they all went on vacation in Spain.
In a later interview with USA Today, Yonder shared his response. He said he told him he was good with it as long as Yainee was respected and Manny would be there for her.
He also added that he and Manny will remain friends whatever happens between them. “We were friends before, and we’ll be friends afterward,” he concluded.
How did they go from friends to partners in life?

With Yonder’s blessing, Manny asked Yainee. Of course, we all know the answer to that: a yes.
After dating for a few years, on February 6, 2013, Manny finally went down on one knee and asked Yainee to marry him. According to Yainee, the whole thing felt like in the movies. He was talking and saying all those things, and she didn’t even hear him actually ask her.
She was just so shocked and automatically said yes. So, she asked him to ask her for a second time so that she could actually hear it.
The whole proposal was set in South Beach, Florida, and while it felt straight out of a romantic movie for Yainee, it wasn’t the same for Manny. He said it was a mess because the ring was stuck in his pocket, and he struggled to get it out. Nevertheless, it worked out just fine.
The next year, on December 6, they tied the knot at the Château de Challain in France.
What does their married life look like?
The married couple chose to keep their personal life private, but that didn’t mean they completely stayed away from the limelight. That is because Yainee still gets featured a lot on her husband’s Instagram feed. Every tribute photo that Manny uploaded with or about her was a testament to her love and support for him and his career.
In 2018, following the end of his season with the LA Dodgers, he posted a photo of them on the field. In the caption, he wrote that he couldn’t have done it without her by his side.
In 2020, he made a dedication post to her for her birthday. He penned a short but sweet message, “Happy birthday to the most beautiful amazing person in this planet, that I get to call my wife!!!! Wishing you nothing but continuous happiness and love forever I love you!!!!!!!!”
Aside from attending his games, Yainee also accompanied him in various MLB events, among other things.
However, they weren’t keen on the nightlife, though they lived then in Miami and Manny was a high-profile big leaguer. According to Manny, he and Yaniee were boring and preferred staying home. They didn’t let people in because they already had their own close circle. To them, it was all about family.
