The Comeback! Fire Country Renewed for Season 2!

Fire Country Season 2 is on the way! The CBS show gained massive popularity after the first season premiered last October 7, 2022. According to CBS, Fire Country was the most-watched new television series of the season, averaging 8 million people each episode.

They even added that this figure increases to 10 million when streaming across all platforms is considered. That is why it’s no brainer why the show was renewed for a second season.

Bode Donavan, played by Max Thieriot, the show’s co-creator, and executive producer, is a man who burns down his own life and receives a five-year jail sentence. In the show, he finds himself back in his hometown as part of a release program where he can demonstrate that he deserves a shorter punishment.

Along with being a constant test of Bode’s fortitude, commitment, and dedication, working with firefighters combating wildfires in Northern California has the potential to lead to the atonement he seeks. The old cast, namely Billy Burke, Kevin Alejandro, Diane Farr, Stephanie Arcila, Jordan Calloway, and Jules Latimer, will also join Max in this new season.

Max Thieriot spoke one-on-one with Collider about how rewarding the success of Fire Country is, how this series came about, and why he wanted to tell this story. Everything they do ensures authenticity because they are personally connected to the subject matter.

All of that holds true while filming fire scenes when there isn’t fire to engage with, how Bode is even a surprise to himself by being able to turn his terrible past into a positive, what he hoped to accomplish with the first season, and his plans.

The lead actor also revealed another reason Fire Country is close to his heart. In one of his interviews, he disclosed that he had friends who joined the military of Cal Fire after finishing high school. With this, Max is inspired to make the show the best possible.

Additionally, Max disclosed that they employ technical consultants while filming the show. The cast collaborates with a diverse group of seasoned firefighters from all across the world. Some have been working in service for around 30 years. All of that is done to add as much authenticity as possible to what they film.

The show’s protagonist also said they tried hard to find that ‘sweet spot.’ The production took each step slowly to balance out each episode’s entertainment and dramatic storytelling. They didn’t only want to give viewers a show they enjoy but also one that can educate them on real-life happenings in the firefighting profession.

So, what happened in the last season? Here is what you’ve missed.

Bode and Gabriela were established as the show’s key pair throughout the first season of Fire Country. The two don’t have the opportunity to pursue their connection in a typical setting because Bode is still serving his sentence and must abide by the rules at Three Rock.

Unluckily, a lawyer who claimed Bode was accountable for bringing drugs into Three Rock gave him an ultimatum just before his parole hearing. Fans know that isn’t the case, but Bode decides to take the fall and falsely admits to being unclean to have Freddy’s mistaken conviction overturned.

Even though she doesn’t accept his justification, Bode pleads with Gabriela to forget about him before being sent back to prison. Cara, Bode’s high school girlfriend, confessed she became pregnant at 19 and is unsure if the child is Bode’s, which surprised Jake Crawford, Cara’s current man.

Despite continuing health issues, Sharon decided to accept her brother-in-law’s kidney. After their drama, the miracle match appeared to reunite Vince and his estranged brother Luke Leone.

The hit CBS television show Fire Country already has Max Thieriot as its creator, star, and executive producer. But starting with one of the episodes, he also joins the team as a director, returning to one of his series to direct.

Max is very enthusiastic about his director role and said that the secret of having the whole crew work efficiently is to make everyone happy. The actor is very committed to making the atmosphere during filming bright and fun to lessen the burden of perfecting the shots and lowering stress while working long hours.

Aside from Max Thieriot, Kevin Alejandro is another cast member involved in directing. The seasoned actor also served as the episode’s director, in which his character, Cal Fire Captain Manny Perez, is forced to make a life-or-death choice after a hit-and-run driver hits a car that is dangerously jammed between a railing.

Bode, Vince, and the Fire Country crew argue how to prevent casualties as the vehicle is just one mistake away from falling into the river below with its two occupants unconscious.

Whether another cast from the series will be behind the camera on Fire Country Season 2, directors and producers have not yet been announced. However, it appears probable that several cast members will keep looking into opportunities to direct in the future.

What to expect in Season 2?

CBS is yet to announce the exact premiere date of the second season of Fire Country. But there is still something exciting for fans to anticipate.

It was revealed that the show will air on Fridays, 9 p.m. ET, during Fall 2023. It might not be much of a spoiler, but it’s a good thing to look forward to.

Most of season 2’s stories have yet to be public. However, the procedural plot concerning the Northern California area fires that the firefighters battled forms the show’s core. In addition to coping with the drama in their personal lives, these individuals also have to fight fires.

Though unexpected, the CBS rookie show wowed many and is now one of the channel’s best series. And as fans wait for Fire Country Season 2, the excitement of more plot twists and intriguing story developments is something that most viewers hold onto their seats.
