During the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 30th Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party, Sandra Lee’s sheer dress made a big impression on the red carpet.
After almost a month of recovering from her Hysterectomy, the television chef made her first appearance. The award-winning chef ruled a multimillion-dollar food and lifestyle business as of late March 2015, when People magazine named her one of its “Most Beautiful.”
After finishing the photoshoot for the magazine, Sandra Lee received a call from her doctor with the findings of a recent mammogram: she had Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS), an early stage of breast cancer.

She became motivated to learn everything she could about cancer and take action to stop other women from suffering through what she did after receiving a cancer diagnosis.
It inspired the documentary “Rx: Early Detection, A Cancer Journey With Sandra Lee,” which follows Sandra through appointments, surgery, and returning home as she endures the protracted healing process.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Stand Up to Cancer organization appreciated Sandra’s fervent and individualized tale. However, she wasn’t done reaching out to individuals.
Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York, had been dating Sandra for a long time during Sandra’s diagnosis. Due to Sandra’s diagnosis, the government implemented legislation requiring weekend hours and extended screening hours at specific hospitals and clinics in the state.
Then, like a comeback to a grand stage, Sandra Lee wore a custom-made sheer dress during the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 30th Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party. Ukrainian designer Anait Mkrtchian designed the dress.

She wore the dress just four weeks after having her Hysterectomy and eight years after having her double mastectomy after battling breast cancer. Sandra reportedly called the stunning ensemble, an entirely sheer dress with flowers and vines details, “my couture F-U-cancer gown.”
Sandra Lee opted for the dress to be almost nude, confidently flaunting her figure post-op. The event was the ideal venue for the Emmy Award-winning television host to make her significant comeback following red-carpet surgery because she serves on the board of the Elton John Aids Foundation.
The TV personality had been through a lot during her battle with breast cancer, but despite it all, Sandra stood firm and held on until she could recover. Sandra thanked the people with her during her battle with the disease, including her new lover, Ben Youcef.

After almost two years of being together, Sandra looks forward to hitting more milestones with Ben, who has been with her throughout the celebrity chef’s recovery.
Sandra Lee’s sheer dress gained much attention from the media and people online. However, it was not only a fashion statement. It also served as an image of a woman who endured and survived cancer. It was the proof of her battle and triumph over the dreaded illness and a message that we too can say, ‘F-U cancer!’
