Writers Discuss Evan Handler’s Full-Frontal for His Character Harry Goldenblatt

In one of ‘And Just Like That’ episodes, audiences were shocked when Evan Handler’s Harry Goldenblatt did a full-frontal moment. Everyone starts to wonder why the production would allow such a scene to be broadcasted. That’s why the show’s writers decided to jump in to discuss the reason behind their decision to give the star a full frontal moment.

‘And Just Like That’ is a revival of the hit show Sex and the City. The drama’s storyline is set 11 years after the events of the previous show, which ended in 2010. ‘And Just Like That’ shows the transition of the cast’s friendship in their 30s to a more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.

During that controversial episode, Harry was seen discussing with his wife, Charlotte York, in the bathroom. It seems like Harry doesn’t like the idea of wearing a fitness ring to monitor his health. However, his wife is quite persistent about it.

As the argument continues to fire up, Harry then suggests that instead of bickering, they should just have sex and enjoy each other’s company. York is not against it at all, so without hesitation, she kneels down to undo Harry’s zipper. However, their enjoyment is immediately interrupted when their daughter Lily enters the room.

This scene caused a lot of discussion online. So fans are asking for a full-on explanation from the writers of the show. That said, the ‘And Just Like That’ writers immediately did all they could to straighten up some issues.

They first discuss the decision to include this scene in an interview with a popular entertainment magazine. Aside from that, they have also attended the Writers Room podcast, where they made it clear to everyone that they used prosthetics for the scene.

Moreover, the writers also wanted the viewers to understand that the main purpose of the scene was to convey that York and Harry, despite their age, still have a healthy sex life like those other couples.

Basically, the scene was included to add depth to Harry’s character and to explore issues related to body image and self-confidence. Since that’s what the show is all about.

King, one of the writers, also recalled what it was like during the filming of the scene. It was so intense but at the same time really exciting for the actors and the crew. King described it in a very detailed manner.

He states that the scene was so tense since no one knew what would happen next. Then when they get to that one shot where Lily comes in, and York turns to look at her, causing his manhood to be exposed to the camera, the crew just squeaks in excitement. The moment the director said cut, everyone found themselves screaming and applauding.

Moreover, later in the same episode, there was yet another full-frontal moment. This time it involved Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw and her downstairs neighbor’s boyfriend. In the said scene, Carrie was so desperate to have a good night’s sleep.

However, she can’t have one due to the loud partying at her neighbor’s house. She tried to keep her calm, but when she already had enough, Carrie went to her neighbors herself. When she knocks on the door, though, the boyfriend, wearing only a sheet around his waist, answers.

While they were having a brief conversation, his sheet fell off and fully exposed his body. The scene shocked every viewer as if they had never anticipated such a scene to happen again in one episode.

That said, although the scenes have got some mixed reactions from the viewers, it was reported that the cast and crew were really supportive of it, especially the scene with Harry. The cast even describes it as “substantial” and “important” for the show’s storyline.

Although it definitely caused some controversies online, no one can deny the fact that Evan Handler’s Harry Goldenblatt full-frontal moment did spice up the episode.
