Everyone’s watching out for “We’re the Millers 2,” including us. But it looks like it isn’t happening anytime soon, according to Will Poulter, who plays the iconic Kenny in the film.
In his exclusive interview with Us Weekly, the actor said, “I don’t think so, but I got a lot of love for Jennifer [Aniston] and Jason [Sudeikis] and Rawson [Marshall Thurber], our director.” He added that he would love to work with all of them again, but he doesn’t think it would happen.
“We’re drug smugglers. There’s a difference.”

“We’re the Millers” is a road trip crime-comedy film released in 2013 by New Line Cinema through Warner Bros. Pictures, starring Jason Sudeikis (drug dealer David Clark), Jennifer Aniston (stripper Rose O’Reilly/Sarah), Will Poulter (awkward 18-year-old Kenny Rossmore), and Emma Roberts (19-year-old runaway Casey Mathis).
The plot is simple: David, a low-level drug dealer, has to travel to Mexico and pick up a shipment for his supplier to pay his debts. To ensure a ‘mission accomplished,’ he entailed the help of Sarah, Kenny, and Casey to pose as his loving family.
Technically, they’re a dysfunctional, drug-dealing family – oops, according to Kenny, they’re drug smugglers, and there’s a difference. Together, they ride the RV into the south of the border for one wild weekend.
According to Poulter, he was a huge fan of Friends growing up, so it was definitely a privilege to watch Jennifer Aniston do her thing. He also said that Jason was such a brilliant improviser.
There were also a number of times that Aniston came to his aid while filming, and he felt so lucky to be around the more experienced actors who were kind enough to extend advice and encouragement his way.
The $37-million movie wasn’t a critic favorite, but it ended up being a box-office hit, grossing $270 million during its worldwide theatrical run. It also earned four nominations for the People’s Choice Awards and six MTV Movie Awards, bagging two wins.

Will Poulter’s character Kenny is no less than a comedic classic. However, the actor did confess that his heart is probably more into drama. He said, “I think comedy’s something that I do and I have fun doing, but drama’s where I kind of wrestle with stuff a little bit more and I enjoy that challenge.”
He added that he wanted the friction that drama affords him and that comedy can sometimes be so much fun that he couldn’t get his hands dirty enough. When asked where Kenny would be today, Poulter replied that he had no idea because he hadn’t honestly thought about his character in a while.
Will Poulter’s movies and series that dive deep into the genre include the Maze Runner franchise, period crime drama Detroit, Leonardo di Caprio’s The Revenant, Florence Pugh’s Midsommar, and the TV miniseries about opioid addiction Dopesick.
We’re the Millers 2, When?

Aside from the movie’s huge commercial success, the other reason that many fans were anticipating a sequel was its open-ended finale.
If you remember the last few sequences, it was revealed that David actually conspired with the DEA to arrest the big-time marijuana dealers he was smuggling for.
In exchange for his cooperation and testimony, he and his newfound family were placed in the witness protection program. They were put in a nice suburban home with a white picket fence and, of course, marijuana in the backyard.
With that, fans think it could potentially explore the idea of the Millers blending into the suburbia and maybe running into their enemies’ revenge plot for putting them behind bars. There might even be another wild road trip to look forward to.
According to Screen Rant, Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema actually announced that a sequel was in development on February 25, 2014. They hired veteran writer-producer Adam Sztykiel as the replacement for the four-person writing team of the first film.
The follow-up was tentatively titled, We’re Still The Millers. The studio also announced that Rawson Thurber was also set to return and direct it. However, there seemed to be no progress or other announcements after that.
Since then, Sztykiel has worked on a string of projects, including the NBC sitcom Undateable, the film Skyscraper, and the Netflix action-thriller Red Notice with Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot. “We’re the Millers 2″ remained under his upcoming projects, according to IMDB.
Sadly though, Jennifer Aniston said that We’re the Millers 2 was scrapped. She confirmed it during her promotional activities for Murder Mystery 2 last March 2023. So, as it turned out, Will Poulter was right. The dysfunctional Millers are not coming back to the big screen.
